Day 34 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!
Hi friends: It’s day 34 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! I am still so damn cold. It’s only the beginning of November but I do miss the summer weather and I am not looking forward to the winter weather. But what can I do to keep warm? I usually drink water during the day but I have turned to drinking tea to warm me up.
My newest tea fascination is Matcha Tea. Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for about three weeks before harvest and the stems and veins are removed in processing.
Matcha green tea is a stone-ground green tea and a traditional staple in Japan. It is a unique, antioxidant-rich and health-promoting beverage that many people incorporate into their weight loss plan. At the beginning of my weight loss journey I experimented with drinking this tea due to the weight loss benefits that I read about. I read that matcha could help speed up the process, but I quickly realized that it will not make you lose weight by itself. It’s a nice addition.
According to livestrong.com the major antioxidant in green tea — EGCG — is linked to potential weight loss benefits, and matcha has more of it than regular green tea. The EGCG concentration from drinking matcha is three times higher than that of regular green tea, according to an analysis in the “Journal of Chromatography” reported in September 2003.
The EGCG in matcha may boost your metabolism during moderate-intensity exercise, thus enhancing weight loss, suggests a small study. On average, green tea extract increased study participants’ fat-burning capabilities by 17 percent when they engaged in cycling exercise for 30 minutes. This study only had 12 subjects, so more studies are needed using a larger sample size and actual brewed tea instead of the extract. The good news is that the amount of EGCG used in the study may be found in a cup or two of matcha tea, based on studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in March 2008.
I’m not drinking Matcha for the weight loss possibilities but I thought you might enjoy the data. I am more interested in the health benefits. According to healthline.com, the rich polyphenol compounds found in matcha help lower the risk of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer; they also help keep your brain healthy as you age.
How to make matcha tea?
Using a whisk and bowl.
- Sift 1-2 tsp matcha into a cup using a small sifter.
- Add 2oz hot water. For best results use water just under a boil.
- Whisk vigorously in a zig zag motion until the tea is frothy.
- Enjoy your matcha tea straight from the bowl.
Today’s dinner was steak and a large cup of matcha tea! My steak and match tea was delicious. It’s nice to change things up a little.
