WHY I QUIT THE CARNIVORE DIET!

Hello friends: For those that don’t know me. I’m Lola.
I have been doing the carnivore diet experiment now for 17 weeks. My goal was to do it for 52 weeks. The carnivore diet is a diet that consists of eating meat when you are hungry and drinking water when you are thirsty.

The carnivore diet movement exploded on the same when Dr. Shawn Baker started to promote it. He spoke about it on the Joe Rogan show. My protocol was eating meat once a day. I would eat as much as I wanted until full and satisfied. My beverage was water. No coffee or tea. So basically, what I did was omad/carnivore diet.
I chose not to have coffee or tea because I have to have molasses and cream in my coffee. Sweeteners are not allowed on this diet.

Why did I quit? Why am I even telling you guys I quit? Honestly, it’s important for me to be transparent and honest. That is really important to me. So why did I quit? I could never seem to lose the cravings for sugar and carbs. Week 16, I gave into my cravings. I will not say what I had because I don’t want to trigger anyone.
I was not hungry when I was not eating. Actually, when I ate a fatty steak. I always felt full for a very long time. It was the delicious sweet smells, the commercials, being around carbs and sweets, the parties, the family gatherings.

It got to the point that I could not have sweets or carbs in my home which was unfair to my family. I started to avoid friends and family. I was eating meat and my family continued to eat the standard diet which I cooked. Anyway, I quit. I am still eating mostly meat, but I added some carbs back in. My new protocol is…during the week I eat just meat and, on the weekends, I do have carbs. Yikes!

It works for me. However, I feel guilty because I did not see this diet through to the 52-week mark. This carnivore diet is amazing. I realized during this short term experiment that eating just meat is the optimal fuel for the body. My body was at its best during this time. I realized that I can do one meal a day as a lifestyle but I don’t think I can eat just meat as a lifestyle. I am a foodie. I love different foods, the smells, the textures. I love to prepare them. I love to taste everything I cook. I am not sure if I will continue with the before and after clips that I have been doing for my updates. I am not sure at this point. My husband says that I should continue to do the clips even if I do not actually post them to Youtube. What do you guys think? Also, did your craving ever go away while on this diet?

Health Benefits of Water Fasting

There are several benefits to drinking water in general.

Mental Clarity

You are able to think much more clearly when fasting compared to regular eating habits. This is probably a side effect of your body not working very hard and in turn causing you to relax.

Many entire 5 days of fasting was very relaxing. I felt that I had more time. I didn’t realize how much time was devoted to preparing and eating just my food. This week was about facials and long baths.

Fat Burn

After your body has used all of its extra calories, it begins burning fat. When your body burns fat, you lose weight.

I am not a fan of fasting merely to lose weight. I like to use fasting as a detox and a way to reset. When you are fasting your body goes into survival mode. Your body realizes that it is not being fed. So in order to protect you, your metabolism slows to a crawl. I understand that it is really important to not go on a binge when the fast ends. Otherwise all the weight lost will come right back.

The foods suggested to break the fasts are all trigger foods for me. I haven’t had carbs for almost 3 months. So in my case I will stick to breaking my fast with meat. Let’s see what happens.

If food is reintroduced properly and in moderation, keeping the weight off is possible.

Vision

I have read that it can sharpen your vision. I haven’t noticed a slight change but I did only fast for 5 days.

Longer Lifespan

It’s hard to explain the science behind this one, but research shows that those who fast live longer.

I think the longer life is due to the removal of toxins from the body which in turn allows the body to rest.

Detoxify

This was the main reason I wanted to do this fast. I hope to go back to a proper all meat diet that is filled with nutrient dense meat which is better for us.  I hope this is the reset that I was needing.

Dinner:

I broke my fast with a thick juicy steak. I decided to not have the eggs it was too much. I didn’t have any tummy distress at all. So I wonder why all the experts say to break your fast with carbs and leave the meat to the end. Hmmmmm….

Week 12 health benefits so far:
Acne – My skin is acne free. Now working on my acne scars.
Digestion – Still great!
Sleep – Same as last week – I am sleeping throughout the night. Insomnia cured!
Skin – I am finally seeing an improvement in my eczema.
Health – I am feeling great. Lots of energy!
Vision – I have noticed a slight change in my vision.
Weight – Current weight is 129.6???
Week 1 – I was 139.6!
Week 2 – I was 137.2!
Week 3 – I was 138.8!
Week 4 – I was 137.2!
Week 5 – I was 137.4!
Week 6 – I was 135.2!
Week 7 – I was 136.6!
Week 8 – I was 136.0!
Week 9 – I was 135.4!
Week 10 – I was 135.8!
Week 11 – I was 134.4!

Hi friends: It’s day 81 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! Also day 3 of the water fast/sea salt flush!
Last night I slept great but got up a little earlier because my daughter had a choir practice. Once I returned home, I did my sea salt water flush. I had prepared it the night before. This saved me quite a bit of time because I didn’t have to wait for the water to cool down.

This is the third day that I have drank the sea salt water. The last few days I had no problem drinking the mixture but today. I felt nauseous. It was so gross. However, I got it down. About an hour later my flush came through. Of course afterward, I did feel really thirsty and I sipped on water throughout the day. I am doing a water fast after all. I did have a slight headache but this is due to the water fast.

I have done zero exercise this week but I have pampered myself so much. I have had nice hot baths and black strap molasses facial every day this week.

My decision to try water fasting again!

The first time I did one. I was skeptical, scared and curious at the time. I watched many YouTube videos and read many articles on the internet. There were so testimonials of people who loved fasting. Many of the people that did it. Did it for weight loss!

They raved about the health benefits, spiritual benefits and so on. Many people said it cured their cancer, acne, depression and fibromyalgia.

Despite all that I read I wanted to find out for myself. The first two tries I loved it! It really showed me that I could do anything.

When I do I fast I don’t tell anyone accept for my husband.

I chose water fasting for several reasons:

Water fasts are quick detoxifiers. I believe it is the only way to really detoxify your body and bring it back in check.

Water fasts can be difficult. It is best to work your way up to it. My longest fast has been 6 days. So I would not necessary declare that I am going to do a 10 day fast. Once I do a 8 day fast. Then I will tackle a 10 day fast!
