Day 35 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!
Hi friends: It’s day 35 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! I’m sure you are wondering how to eat steak on a budget. We go grocery shopping every Sunday. We always stock up on steak whenever there is a sale. Today’s there was a sale on tenderloin steak. We bought 6 packs. Each pack had 3-4 steaks inside. Sometimes it can be tricky to know which steak to buy. Our favourite cuts so far are the ribeyes and the steak tenderloin because they are very easy and tender to eat.
The butcher told me today that the most popular are actually ribeye, strip loin, tenderloin, T-bone and Porterhouse steaks. Here’s why? These cuts come from high up on the animal, from muscles that don’t get much exercise, which is why they’re so tender.
We made the unfortunate mistake of buying the blade months ago. We hated this cut. I marinated it for at least 24 hours and yes it was edible but it did not compare to my favourite cuts. Why was the blade so unpleasant. Blade steaks are made by cutting directly across the top blade muscle, which is actually pretty tender. The problem is there’s a seam of connective tissue running through the center of it, which means that every section of steak has a piece of this tough strip of gristle right in the middle. Some people love the beefy flavour. Personally, I did not. My daughter asked me not to cook this for her again and she actually not a picky eater. lol
If you do decide to give this cut of beef a try, I would marinade it. Do not marinate it with beer or wine. Simply use coarse salt to tenderize. Be sure to add a generous amount. Then put it in a zip lock bag. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours. Gently rinse off some of the salt. Then pat dry with a paper towel. Pan fry it on medium to your desire.
Today’s dinner was rib-eye steak and a large cup of tea! My steak and matcha tea were delicious.
Week 5 health benefits so far:
Acne – I have fewer new breakouts.
Digestion – Still no more acid reflux! No more bloating!
