WHY I QUIT THE CARNIVORE DIET!
Hello friends: For those that don’t know me. I’m Lola.
I have been doing the carnivore diet experiment now for 17 weeks. My goal was to do it for 52 weeks. The carnivore diet is a diet that consists of eating meat when you are hungry and drinking water when you are thirsty.
The carnivore diet movement exploded on the same when Dr. Shawn Baker started to promote it. He spoke about it on the Joe Rogan show. My protocol was eating meat once a day. I would eat as much as I wanted until full and satisfied. My beverage was water. No coffee or tea. So basically, what I did was omad/carnivore diet.
I chose not to have coffee or tea because I have to have molasses and cream in my coffee. Sweeteners are not allowed on this diet.
Why did I quit? Why am I even telling you guys I quit? Honestly, it’s important for me to be transparent and honest. That is really important to me. So why did I quit? I could never seem to lose the cravings for sugar and carbs. Week 16, I gave into my cravings. I will not say what I had because I don’t want to trigger anyone.
I was not hungry when I was not eating. Actually, when I ate a fatty steak. I always felt full for a very long time. It was the delicious sweet smells, the commercials, being around carbs and sweets, the parties, the family gatherings.
It got to the point that I could not have sweets or carbs in my home which was unfair to my family. I started to avoid friends and family. I was eating meat and my family continued to eat the standard diet which I cooked. Anyway, I quit. I am still eating mostly meat, but I added some carbs back in. My new protocol is…during the week I eat just meat and, on the weekends, I do have carbs. Yikes!
It works for me. However, I feel guilty because I did not see this diet through to the 52-week mark. This carnivore diet is amazing. I realized during this short term experiment that eating just meat is the optimal fuel for the body. My body was at its best during this time. I realized that I can do one meal a day as a lifestyle but I don’t think I can eat just meat as a lifestyle. I am a foodie. I love different foods, the smells, the textures. I love to prepare them. I love to taste everything I cook. I am not sure if I will continue with the before and after clips that I have been doing for my updates. I am not sure at this point. My husband says that I should continue to do the clips even if I do not actually post them to Youtube. What do you guys think? Also, did your craving ever go away while on this diet?
