Hi friends: It’s day 62 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! As many of you know I am a supporter of intermittent fasting and omad.
If you are new to my blog, omad is one meal a day. It is the practice of eating only once.
Intermittent fasting — the practice of going without food for some period of time.
Intermittent fasting has many health benefits. It can help prevent heart disease, speed fat loss, and reverses aging. The sweet spot for intermittent fasting is autophagy.
One of my Instagram friends mentioned that intermittent fasting encourages autophagy which is a cellular self-cleansing process. The cellular self-cleansing process that breaks down and recycles damaged molecules and cellular organelles. Simply put autophagy is a detox process your body undergoes to clean out damaged cells and regenerate new ones. Isn’t that exciting?
Because many of our cells, like those in the brain, need to last a lifetime, the body developed a unique way of ridding itself of those faulty parts and defending itself naturally against disease.
When autophagy is activated, the aging process is slowed and the reduction of inflammation begins.
Why and when does autoghagy occur?
Autophagy is also achievable through intermittent fasting just as easily as longer fasts. Autophagy begins when liver glycogen is depleted, around 12-16 hours into a fast. The rate of autophagy peaks there, and then drops after about 2 days. So the body is doing a cleanup. It’s our body’s own recycling system.
Autophagy health benefits:
1) Make our bodies way more efficient and conservative with our energy.
2) It helps fight infections.
3) It decreases inflammation in the body.
5) Slow down the aging process.
4) Improves our muscles.
Many people that do the carnivore diet also do intermittent fasting by default. Because our meals are so satisfying and filling. We eat only one or two meals a day. Personally, I eat one meal and fast for 20 hours and have a 4-hour eating window. Another benefit of the carnivore diet is autophagy!
Today’s dinner was steak, eggs, and bacon!

Hi friends: It’s day 45 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! Just a quick recap for my newest readers. Welcome to my blog.
I have been eating a meat-only diet which is pretty self-explanatory. I only eat meat. No fruits…no vegetables or dairy. Just meat!
Foods that are allowed on the Carnivore Diet:
If you are interested in this diet….Here’s what you’ll be eating:
Red meat (beef, goat meat, pork, lamb) ensure they are fatter cuts
Organ meats
Chicken
Fish
Eggs
Bone marrow
Butter
Seasoning of your choice (salt, pepper)
Bone broth
Water
Other acceptable foods are dairy:
Milk
Yogurt
Cheese
Coffee and Tea – no sugar or sweeteners
Be very cautious about dairy due sensitives.
Anything else that isn’t meat is not allowed on the carnivore diet.
A typical day of carnivore diet eating for me consists of:
Dinner: 12-ounce ribeye steak and bacon.
A typical day of carnivore diet eating for my husband consists of:
Lunch: Chicken wings
Dinner: Rib-eye steak and bacon
There are no snacks here. One of the benefits of a carnivore diet is you will feel full much faster because of the high protein. Many carnivores are usually not hungry in between meals. I basically sip water between meals.
I hope I have caught up all of my new readers.

Hi friends: It’s day 22 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! As many of you know I am still eating one meal a day! I get many questions daily about omad/intermittent fasting. What is intermittent fasting? It is a term for various diets that cycle between a period of fasting and non-fasting during a defined period. Intermittent fasting may produce weight loss comparable to long-term calorie restriction. Omad pretty much means eating one meal a day! It can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. All calories are consumed at one meal. Many dieters combine omad and intermittent fasting. Just like me.
I’ve compiled a list of commonly asked questions about eating one meal per day.
FAQ omad/intermittent fasting:
What kind of foods can I eat?
Many people eat whatever they like. However, for some people, they do hit a wall with this method. There isn’t any single food that you should or shouldn’t eat. Personally, I am eating only meat but I have had times when I eat whatever I like.
Think of this diet as your time to eat a ton of food in one sitting, instead of throughout the day! If you love food like me, you’re going to love this way of eating.
If you are not doing the carnivore diet, I would recommend doing the ketogenic diet along with omad. This diet consists of high fat, moderate protein and low carbs. An example of one of my keto meals would be a ribeye steak, vegetable, strawberries and coffee for dessert.
How many hours should you wait before going to sleep after you have your big meal?
I stop eating at 7 pm each night and I go to bed at 10 pm but do what works for you.
How long can you eat one meal per day for?
As long as you want. I have been eating one meal a day for over a year now! It gets easier. At the 3 month mark eating one meal a day became a habit.
Eating once per day is a real, long-term approach to dieting that can work for as long as you want.
Does it matter whether you eat your one meal in the morning or at night?
Nope doesn’t matter at all. It should be your preference and what works for you time-wise. My one meal is always dinner because I want to have that meal with my family. Also, I do not like to go to sleep with that hungry feeling.
Could eating one meal per day be bad for you?
I do not believe that it is. I went from eating from the time that I woke up until I went to sleep. Now I think that is bad for everyone.
Can eating McDonalds be my one meal for the day?
Please use common sense. I would say yes to fast food once in a while. I would stick to nutrient-dense foods to maximize your health.
Can I drink coffee during the fast?
Yes, coffee is a great appetite suppressant to use while fasting. However, I would recommend drinking only black coffee during your fasting time to avoid breaking your fast.
Can I add milk and sugar to the coffee during my fasting time?
I would avoid artificial sweeteners if possible because it can stimulate your appetite. I would stick with black coffee and tea. Only have your coffee or tea during your feasting time with your omad.
Is eating one meal per day guaranteed to help you lose weight?
No, everyone is different. Not everything works for everyone. Omad is not the magic fix. You still have to be consistent and make wise food choices.
I tried this diet and it doesn’t work for me? What do I do?
Impossible to say. Maybe you’re eating too many calories during your omad.
Should you exercise before or after your meal?
I didn’t go to the gym while doing omad. However, do what fits your lifestyle. I do think that it is important to move your body. Even if it is swimming or walking daily.
Do you need to count calories while eating one meal per day?
I personally did not track my calories. However if it is helpful to you, track them especially if you are not losing weight, then you will know why and then you can adjust.
What if you get hungry when fasting?
Drink plenty of water.
Stayed away from sugarless gum. The chewing actually makes me feel hungry.
Stay busy and productive.
Why do you take black seed oil and when?
I take it because it helps with my immunity. I haven’t had a cold or flu since I started taking it. No flu or cold for over two years. Also, it is a fantastic appetite suppressant.
I take it about 30 before I eat. I add one teaspoon to a glass of water.
How much water should you drink?
At a minimum, enough to stay hydrated. Drink when you feel thirsty. Keep water nearby to sip. Personally drinking water helped to ward off hunger pangs. Fooled my tummy into thinking I was full.
Hopefully, this answers all your questions and gets you on the right path.
