Day 7 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!

Day 7 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!

Hello friends: It’s day seven of the carnivore diet experiment! It’s Thanksgiving weekend for us Canadian’s. Today my husband and I did our grocery shopping. I bought steak, shrimp, eggs, and chicken. We still have lots of steak in our freezer from last weekend’s shopping but it’s a good idea to buy steak when it’s on special. The good cuts of steak can be very expensive. Lucky for us today, rib-eye steak was on sale again at the Metro grocery store.

My sister told me that she would be cooking a small turkey and lasagna as the main course. There would be the regular sides such as mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad, and corn. She told me that I didn’t have to bring anything but I still brought deviled eggs and jerk chicken wings.

I fasted for my usual 20 hours and saved my 4-hour eating window for this Thanksgiving dinner. My sister put out a platter of cheese, crackers, and fruit but I ate the deviled eggs that I brought and some ham.

When we all sat down for dinner, of course, she said, “You are only eating meat?” My husband answered for me and said, “Yep we are both eating meat only.” My daughter said, “Yeah their both crazy.” Everyone laughed and we continued on with the night. My nephews were very curious about the carnivore diet. I was expecting a lot of judgment but that was not what I received. After I talked about the many benefits that I had experienced during my 30 carnivore diet challenge which I completed months ago. There was so much interest that I really think that some of my relatives may just try this new diet. If you are in this similar situation, say what you are doing but don’t try to convince anyone. Just share your experience. When I did the omad, I pretty much didn’t tell anyone. I just showed them the results.

When my sister asked me to help her put out the dessert, ok now this was tough. I have a major sweet tooth and only 7 days in…I have not lost my sugar cravings just yet. I did help her and I was tempted by all of those delicious treats. There was cake, cookies, apple pie, brownies, and an assortment of fruit. I dealt with this by reminding myself of what happens when I eat sugar. It would be wonderful if I could just eat just one piece but that is never the case. I am realizing that I am, an all or nothing person. This is something that I will have to work on.

I did have a cup of milk thistle tea tonight. No sugar or artificial sweetener was added. Coffees, teas, and water are allowed on this diet. I choose to not have regular coffee because it makes me nervous. So I switched to decaffeinated coffee, however, I cannot seem to drink coffee without cream and molasses. Black coffee tastes horrible.

Week 1 health benefits so far:
Acne – No change
Digestion – Slight improvement – No more acid reflux!
Sleep – Improvement – I am sleeping throughout the night.I’m getting to sleep much faster.
Weight – Current weight is 139.6 Yikes! I have gained. My lowest weight was 127. So I have gained 12.6 pounds. Remember this is the end of week one and I don’t really know my starting weight because I was afraid to get on that scale. I did estimate and I was way off. I’m sure if I did get on the scale before starting this challenge. The scale would have read a number in the 140s! I did not gain this weight because of the carnivore diet. This weight gain is because I have been eating like an idiot!  I will consider this 139.6 as my starting weight.
Energy – Slight improvement

I am not happy about the weight gain but this does motivate me to stick with my plan.

Week one has been completed. How is your journey going? I’d love to hear about it. If you would like to join me on this challenge, please check with your doctor first.
