Day 27 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!
Hi friends: It’s day 27 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! I am only three days away from a carnivore diet milestone. I will be at 30 days on this journey. It’s Saturday and I’m spending the day with my daughter. Sadly my husband is working today! We usually spent Saturday’s all together. It’s our family day. Today my daughter and I went to the mall. She had poutine and I had a coffee. While she ate her poutine, I found myself craving red velvet cake among other things. I’m really missing eating pizza and desserts. I had to remind myself of what I would feel like after having this imaginary cake. I also reminded myself of why I was doing this experiment. I don’t want to reverse all of the benefits I have experienced.
During the summer I many relapses. I would eat carnivore Monday to Friday. Then on the weekend, I would binge on carbs and junk food. I felt like I was waking from a hang ever Sunday and Monday morning.
I went to bed exhausted and woke up exhausted. We are told that sugar and carbs energize us but in fact, it gives a quick boost than a crash. When I would eat carbs I was hungry all the time. I would get the hunger pangs constantly. I just never felt satisfied. It was a horrible feeling to be hungry yet my tummy was filled with food. It’s madness really…still eating when your tummy feels like it’s going to explode and feeling like…I have to eat everything now because during the week I’m eating just meat.
The bottom line is that sugar does one of two things. It either displaces more nutritious foods in your diet, which means you’re screening out nutritious-dense foods, or it adds calories to your diet. So if you’re adding calories on top of an already nutritious diet that puts you at risk for weight gain.
There’s also been some research that has shown that added sugars increase your risk of high blood pressure. And added sugars seem to promote inflammation, and more and more we find that inflammation is not good for the heart.
When I get these sugar craving I remind myself that the biggest thing with sugar is that there’s no nutritional value. Foods that tend to have a lot of sugar added, they don’t provide the satiety that you get from meats, so people tend to consume more calories when they eat foods with more sugar in it. I have noticed that time and time again. The more things that I would eat that had sugar it in. The more I seemed to want. I never seemed satisfied. How many of you have started with a slice of cake but then returned for another slice? Then before you knew it you had eaten half the cake. And what about potato chips, I could never eat just one chip.
It is a vicious cycle. I am going to stick with the nutrient-dense meals that make me feel satisfied. I had a gigantic steak for dinner with a big cup of coffee. I didn’t feel the need to overeat.
