Day 20 of 365 | The Carnivore Diet Experiment!

Hi friends: It’s day 20 of 365 of the carnivore diet experiment! I had a beautiful night’s sleep. I slept for 7 hours but I feel like I slept for 12. As I look at my face in the mirror, my morning face is not puffy. My tummy is flat. However, I have to admit that I am still dealing with cravings.

My family and I went to the mall. I had a decaffeinated coffee. My husband and daughter had lunch. I was immediately triggered. I don’t understand why I am still having carb cravings. I am not hungry or thirsty. I’m not tired and I don’t feel anxious. I have cravings for the food I see people eating. I miss the variety. The cravings are mostly for junk food/carbs. I wonder will these cravings ever leave? Maybe I need to accept the fact that this is something that I will always deal with on Day 20 or day 300?

I have done some research and found out that carb cravings occur most often at the beginning of the carnivore transition. I guess day 20 is still the beginning. I learned that pre-carnivore, the body is still in the habit of operating on sugar and processed carbs for energy. Eating a meal high in carbs and sugar and you’ll also have a rise in your blood sugar levels. Your pancreas then sends out insulin to deal with all this glucose in your bloodstream. When you finally stop eating sugar, your body tends to go a bit berserk. Since your body associates carby foods with energy, feeling full and happy, it will start to crave sugar as a quick fix. Your body’s addicted to sugar the same way an addict needs their next fix. So I guess you could say that my body is detoxing. I’m craving sugar because it was my food of choice.

Some info to keep me going. Once I get in ketosis, the carb cravings will disappear and my taste buds will literally change for the better. I didn’t realize that it took so long to get into ketosis. My body will get into the habit and prefer working on fat and ketones and to perform better. So I will have to keep on fighting off carb cravings until my body fully goes into ketosis. I got this!

Today’s dinner was seafood-scallops, shrimp, squid, and octopus! I loved the shrimp but not the other seafood. Tonight I was being adventurous.
